Mum, do I have to sit an 11 Plus mock exam?

Is relying solely on hard work at school sufficient to secure a pass in the Kent Test 11+? Unfortunately, the reality is that school efforts alone are insufficient.

It may come as a surprise that the content of the 11+ exam is not covered in primary classrooms in Kent. School administrators are explicitly directed by the Kent County Council not to engage in formal exam preparation, making it crucial for parents to fully prepare their children for the upcoming challenge.

At Francesca Tutoring, I bring extensive experience in organising revision programs for 11+ preparation. My year 5 Kent Test 11+ tutor clubs often have waiting lists, and over 100 of my Kent Test 11+ mock exams are taken annually, either in person or online.

While many parents recognise the necessity of tutoring, some may question the importance of their child sitting for Kent Test mock tests, assuming that practicing papers at home suffices. As a Kent Test enthusiast, I can attest that the actual papers significantly differ from practice papers available for home study, creating potential confusion for children who practice with different content and timings.

Mock tests are more than mere practice papers; they offer a valuable experience. These tests are integral to Kent Test 11+ preparation, ensuring that, come September, children are not only well-versed in the material but also comfortable in the exam room, confident, and trusting in their test-taking strategies.

Consider mock exams as diagnostic tools. It's not just the questions that pose a challenge on test day; the unique format and short duration of the Kent Test require specific exam techniques. Children familiar with timings and trained in Kent Test-specific strategies tend to perform better.

Beginning in February, I conduct a series of 5 different mock Kent Test papers (Mock 1 to Mock 5), designed to replicate the real test conditions. These mock exams serve as confidence boosters, helping children become familiar with the test format and identifying their strengths.

Mock exams should not be reserved for the last weeks before the real exam. Starting early allows ample time to address any issues that may arise.

Embrace mock exams as opportunities to make and learn from mistakes before the actual test day. Kent Test 11+ demands an effective exam technique, and mock exams provide the perfect platform to practice and refine strategies.

My Kent 11+ mock papers closely mirror real exam conditions, created and designed to look authentically similar to past Kent Test papers. I strive to over-deliver in feedback, providing raw scores, age-adjusted aggregate scores, and detailed breakdowns of individual performance on various topics and subtopics.

Taking multiple mock exams is advised for a comprehensive exam experience. Starting with the first test, Mock 1, offers insight into a child's response to the exam experience, with the option to book additional mocks later. Registration for my Kent Test 11+ mocks is currently open, but history suggests a waiting list will form soon. Secure your spot now to ensure adequate preparation for success.
